Yield Curve Steepening Rattles Growth as Tech Slips Into Support

A sharp move in the 10-year Treasury note sparked a late-session rotation out of high-beta tech and into defensive value pockets.

The morning bid in large-cap tech evaporated by midday as the long end of the curve caught a bid, pressuring valuations across the MAG7. NVDA failed to hold its initial breakout above the psychological $150 level, triggering a cascade of sell-orders that flushed the name down to its 20-day EMA. Scalpers found joy in the volatility, but trend-followers were caught off-sides as the liquidity gap between $146 and $142 filled in record time.

Financials provided the only meaningful ballast for the S&P 500, with JPM leading the charge following a hawkish tone from the Fed's afternoon speakers. While the SPY remained range-bound, the internal breadth was notably weak, with declining issues outnumbering advancers 3-to-1 on the NYSE. The Russell 2000 (IWM) took the brunt of the damage, slicing through its weekly pivot as small-caps reacted poorly to the tightening credit outlook.

Heading into the close, we saw a significant uptick in dark pool activity near the $5,800 level on the SPX, suggesting institutional rebalancing rather than outright panic. TSLA remains the wild card for tomorrow’s open; the stock is wedged between heavy call gamma at $260 and a vacuum of support below $248. Watch for a volatility expansion early in the London session to set the tone for the US pre-market.
